Within the Hants North region of Nova Scotia, the village of Kennetcook occupies an intriguing and important location. Located at the junction of two main routes in Hants County – Route 236 (east-west from Truro to Windsor) and Route 354 (north-south from Noel Shore to Halifax) – it serves as a natural meeting place for residential and visitor traffic.

The characteristics of traditional rural Nova Scotia have largely been preserved in Kennetcook, as it has several nearby communities along the Noel Shore of the Bay of Fundy. Kennetcook has historical ties with its Bay of Fundy neighbors as an inland river-based port, as its thriving forestry industry fed the shipbuilding activities of the coastal community.

Kennetcook’s valley geography has centralized local services, lending the community to pedestrian traffic flow and the potential for continuing to develop a pleasing and accessible environment developed around the village core. Kennetcook is currently home to several service amenities including a health care clinic, a pharmacy, a gas station, a hardware store, a medium-sized grocery store, a volunteer fire department, and a regional art gallery.

Maintaining and expanding the commercial level of activity in Kennetcook and the surrounding area is essential for the continued development for the Hants North region. The Hants Regional Development Authority and the Municipality of East Hants joined forces to ensure that development continues in Kennetcook and the surrounding area by forming the East Hants Regional Project Office.
